Review of The Bravest Woman in America

The most famous lighthouse keeper in America was a woman! Based on a true story, The Bravest Woman in America by Marissa Moss tells the tale of Ida Lewis.

As she grew up near the sea, Ida helped her father tend a lighthouse. She learned to polish the lighthouse lens, how to watch the sea for signs of trouble and most importantly, she learned to row. Eventually, Ida took over the care of the lighthouse, as well as the role of protecting those who ventured onto the ocean. Then one day, wild waves swamped four boys out sailing. And Ida was the only one who could help. Click here to read more.

THE IRON KNIGHT

My name—my True Name—is Ashallayn'darkmyr Tallyn.

I am the last remaining son of Mab, Queen of the Unseelie Court.

And I am dead to her.

My fall began, as many stories do, with a girl...

To cold faery prince Ash, love was a weakness for mortals and fools. His own love had died a horrible death, killing any gentler feelings the Winter prince might have had. Or so he thought.

Then Meghan Chase—a half human, half fey slip of a girl—smashed through his barricades, binding him to her irrevocably with his oath to be her knight. And when all of Faery nearly fell to the Iron fey, she severed their bond to save his life. Meghan is now the Iron Queen, ruler of a realm where no Winter or Summer fey can survive.

With the unwelcome company of his archrival, Summer Court prankster Puck, and the infuriating cait sith Grimalkin, Ash begins a journey he is bound to see through to its end—a quest to find a way to honor his vow to stand by Meghan's side.

To survive in the Iron Realm, Ash must have a soul and a mortal body. But the tests he must face to earn these things are impossible.  And along the way Ash learns something that changes everything. A truth that challenges his darkest beliefs and shows him that, sometimes, it takes more than courage to make the ultimate sacrifice.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns

As soon as I picked up this book, I could not put it down. I stayed up late reading it because I just HAD to know what happened. Elisa is the type of girl I would love to be friends with. She is your typical teenager, only more awesome. And what I mean by that is she is incredibly heroic, self sacrificing, brave... To read more of my review, click here.

Review: Want to Go Private? by Sarah Darer Littman

When I heard Sarah Darer Littman speak to her readers via video chat last winter, I wanted to get my hands on WANT TO GO PRIVATE? immediately. She spoke about a recent news story where the police rescued a teen girl from an Internet predator before they crossed the Canadian border. Only, the thing is, the teen girl didn't see it as a rescue. She had wanted to go with the guy because she was in love with him. Sarah said she wondered what would have to happen for a teenager to get to that point -- the point of climbing into a car with a complete stranger and running away with him.

Willingly.

I tried to answer that question myself. I racked my brain and played out dozens of different scenarios in my mind, but I still couldn't understand why a teen girl would agree to meet a stranger she met online. All I could come up with was that she must have been stupid. A smart girl would never do something like that.

That news story compelled Sarah to find out as well. Through conversations with the police and FBI, she found out it wasn't stupidity at all.

Small Town Sinners

Lacey Anne has always been the good girl.  Her father is pastor of her local evangelical church.  Lacey is excited about the coming try outs for the season's Hell House production.  The role she wants is abortion girl.  Even though she's a junior, she really thinks she can do an amazing job.  Then Ty, a former classmate, shows up.  Lacey is torn by her feelings toward Ty who rumor has it did something bad and is being sent back to their small town to straighten out.  But he also brings with him questions about something Lacey has never questioned before--her faith.  Small Town Sinners shows us a sympathic character who struggles with her own faith without being preachy.

A total must read.

The Fallen: End of Days by Thomas E. Sniegoski

Before The Fallen was an ABC Family television mini-series starring Paul Wesley of The Vampire Diaries and the legendary Tom Skerritt, it was a four-book series by best-selling author Thomas E. Sniegoski. The premise: Aaron has always known that he was adopted, but he never suspected he was half-angel - or that he could be a hero in the ultimate fight between good and evil.

The first four books have been re-released in two volumes, each of which contain two books, omnibus-style. These trade paperbacks became New York Times bestsellers. The next volume, The Fallen 3: End of Days, will be available on September 6th, 2011. Take a peek:

Victory is fleeting, but defeat is eternal. The war between Heaven and Hell rages on. Aaron, half-angel and half-human, commands the Fallen in their quest to protect humanity. But evil forces gain strength at every turn. And lurking somewhere in the shadows is Archangel Gabriel's instrument with the power to call down the End of Days.

Aaron draws confidence from the girl he loves as he struggles to make peace with his legacy as Lucifer's son. These are desperate times, and Aaron knows the Fallen will need to forge new, unlikely alliances to survive.

With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, Aaron will stop at nothing to defend civilization - and the girl who holds his heart. Even if it means venturing to Hell and back.

Ashes

What can I say?  ASHES lives up to the hype.  This is one amazing tale of a future that can very well become our own.  Bick weaves a King like spell on the reader, with realistic details and characters you care about.  Also she's not afraid to have them go to hell and back.  A total must read.

Soul Thief

Just when seventeen-year-old Riley Blackthorne didn't think it could get worse, it does.  After a horrific battle at the Tabernacle, where trappers were killed or wounded, her father has been stolen.  Yes, he's dead but his body has been taken by someone to be used as an undead servant.  Or so Riley thinks.  Top all that with her boyfriend Simon who thinks she's sold her soul to the devil,  one hot demon hunter who's following her, and of course Beck, who acts like an overprotective father figure.  But then the Vatican shows up and Riley knows the rules have changed.  Soul Thief continues the story of Riley, demon trapper, and her quest to find her missing father along with knowing who exactly to trust.  Love this series and can't wait to read more of Riley's adventures.
